Quinta da Varzea is home to a studfarm which aim to preserve and keep the Lusitano as it has been known and famous for centuries. The origin of the Lusitano is the Iberian horse, a horse that is said to be the rise of the Legend of the Centaur where man and horse blend together. Mares were told to be impregnated by the wind giving birth to the fastest and strongest of horses.
We do use more earthbound methods of insemination, however the goal is the same; a horse that can make you feel as one and be couragous and fly like the wind. The characteristics of the Lusitano that we hold dear in our breeding program are true to this and should match most riders desires:
Working closely with some of the most skilled and knowledgable breeders in Portugal we carefully select the stallions that will father our foals for the Lusitanos to be kept true to the original and preserved for the amazing horsebreed it is, pure and honest.
